Terms of Use
Last updated 9 October 2026
These terms cover this website (sanket.kadal.cc) and the Sanket recognition studio (studio.sanket.kadal.cc), published by Kadal (run by Mithunish Prabhakaran, an individual), based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. They add to the Kadal terms of use for this product. By using either, you accept them.
Not an interpreter
Sanket is an assistive research prototype, built for an M.Tech case study. It is not a certified Indian Sign Language interpreter and does not replace one. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, emergency or any other communication where a mistake matters — use a qualified interpreter. In an emergency in India, call 112, or your local emergency number.
What it is
The studio recognises isolated signs from a limited vocabulary and joins them into simple sentences. It gets signs wrong, and it gets more wrong with signers, lighting, cameras and regional variants it was not trained on. The accuracy figures on this site are research measurements, not a promise about your use.
Both the site and the studio are free and offered as-is, without warranties of any kind. We may change, pause or shut down either at any time. The desktop app on the Download page is not released yet.
Using it fairly
- Use it lawfully.
- Point the camera only at people who have agreed to it.
- Do not use it to identify, monitor or profile people.
- Do not attack, overload or try to break the service, or use it to harm anyone.
Practice attempts you contribute
Contribution is off by default. If you switch on “Contribute my practice attempts as training data” in the studio and a contribution server is running, you allow us to use the attempts it receives to train and evaluate future recognition models and to report the results in research write-ups. You can switch it off at any time; attempts already received cannot be recalled. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what an attempt contains, and notes that no contribution server is running today.
This site’s content
The docs, reports and figures on this site describe a student research project. You may quote and link to them with credit to Sanket. Research results are reported as measured and may be revised.
Software, data and credits
- Pose and hand tracking uses MediaPipe by Google (Apache License 2.0). Models run on ONNX Runtime Web by Microsoft (MIT License).
- The recognition models were trained and evaluated using publicly released research sign-language corpora, including INCLUDE and CISLR. Our thanks to their creators; each corpus stays under its own terms, and none of their videos are distributed here.
- The encoder of the 260-sign model was pre-trained in part on Google’s Isolated Sign Language Recognition corpus (PopSign ASL v1.0), created by the Deaf Professional Arts Network and the Georgia Institute of Technology and licensed under CC BY 4.0. Only weights trained on it ship, not the data.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss caused by relying on what the studio recognises or what this site says. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Chennai, Tamil Nadu have jurisdiction. This does not take away any consumer protection the law of your own country gives you.
Contact and changes
